Letter of Intention for the Computer Graphic Art (CGA) Bachelor at
The Animation Workshop
The Animation Workshop
My name is Alberthe Rosschou, I’m 22 years old and I‘m applying for the bachelor in Computer Graphic Art at The Animation Workshop in Viborg.
Although this is my fourth time applying for TAW, three being for
Character Animation, it's the first time I'm applying for CGA.
Character Animation, it's the first time I'm applying for CGA.
The reason for changing my application to CGA, comes from my experience over the past few years. Through talking to people in the animation industry, trying out different 3D modeling software and experimenting with different drawing styles and techniques, I have learned that my interest and abilities matches CGA more.
Currently I’m a student at 3D College in Grenaa as a Multimedia Designer, in which I enrolled summer 2016. Here I have experienced 3D modeling, texturing and rigging, all of which I have enjoyed a lot. I work a lot with Maya and ZBrush, and use Photoshop to make textures. It's amazing to shape and sculpt characters in 3D and watch them slowly come to life.
In fall of 2016 I went on a school trip to Berlin in Germany, where we visited an educational institute called SAE Institute, who teach in film making amongst other artistically creative areas. We made our own little film project and it was amazing to experience how a school in another country would go about teaching in the branch. In four days, we used their Green Screen studios, their sound equipment and After Effects to capture and produce our own film. Although it was such a short time, I learned a lot from working as a team under the pressure of a short deadline.
In 2014 after I graduated at Hjoerring Gymnasium/HF I attended The Drawing Academy, where I was taught by Maria Skov Pedersen for half a year. It was one of my best experiences and it opened my eyes to what it means to be an artist. It also gave me a much better understanding of what I could learn at TAW.
In 2015 I took a Webintegrator course at Viborg Media College in the first half of the year and later I moved to Copenhagen to take a drawing course at TrueMax for the second half of the year.
In the beginning of 2016, I participated in a drawing marathon where we had eight hours to draw an eight pages comic based around two random words drawn out of a hat. It was an amazing experience and was challenging in both imagination and time management.
In September of 2016 I was contacted by, The Nordsoen Oceanarium in Hirtshals who hired me to make 15 illustrations for a children's book called "Anne og Kaskelotte". I enjoyed the experience of how to work and communicate a lot with a client and how to match their wishes for the drawings and the best way to tell the story in each illustration. The book was published in December of 2016.
In the future, I would love to work for Blizzard Entertainment as a 3D Character Artist as I find it inspiring that they make so much out of their models and environment, even though they use so few polygons. I absolutely adore their roleplaying game "World of Warcraft" for its amazing creatures and astonishing scenery. I would also like to work on modeling and rigging 3D characters/creatures for live-action and animation films. It would be such an amazing experience to work with making characters and telling stories with them.
I really love the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" because of their amazing variety of weird and awesome creatures. I want to learn how to model and rig creatures like these and many more. I was blown away by their lighting in the film and how they used the music to push the boundaries of the magic feeling in the film.
Although every film and game has something cool in them, I despise the recent "Assassin's Creed" film. Their camera work was horrible, their angles and movement were so disruptive and the story was poorly told, which furthermore brings shame to the cool game series it's based on. They could have brought so much more from the universe, like all the cool parkour moves or assassination strategies used in the games.

I'm a big fan of Terryl Whitlatch and her awesome skills when it comes to making amazing creatures. I also like Sam Nielson's art in the way that he uses shape language and how he works with lighting and shadows.
I’m planning to pay for the education with SU and savings and if needed an SU loan.
So all of this because I really want to get better as an artist and an animator, to study at The Animation Workshop, to develop my skills and live out my dreams.
Best regards
Alberthe Rosschou
